“ONE NIGHT, THREE FRIENDS AND JESUS….WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?”
New Year’s Eve in New York City goes wrong for three flat-mates when their drug dealer overstays his welcome and turns psycho on them.
Three Thai students in New York (a rich kid, his quiet secretive girlfriend and their sexy, shallow friend) want to have a New Year’s party to remember. With a flyer in hand for a drug dealer called Jesus, they call him up to drop off some stuff at their apartment to celebrate the end of the year in style. They invite the seemingly friendly and ultra-cool Jesus into their home, even though none of them have actually met him before.
As the world outside is counting down the end of the year, the three friends have no idea they’ve just let a cruel psychopath into their home; the day of judgement is on Jesus’ agenda.
Over recent years, Thailand has shown itself as a serious hotbed for horror that has suffered in the international market due to subject matter being based on very local beliefs that are unlikely to scare a Western audience. COUNTDOWN avoids these pitfalls largely because it is set in New York and has a lot of English dialogue but also because it keeps the audience guessing all along as it evolves from stoner comedy to claustrophobic home-invasion right up to head-spinning game changer.
COUNTDOWN is the perfect introduction to the very frightening world of Thai horror.
